Levine Coaching Company leadership development: five practical ways to build trust with your real estate team.

Key takeaway: Trust grows when leaders communicate clearly, keep their commitments, and make it safe for people to raise concerns and take responsibility.

Leadership is not a title you use only in a meeting. Your team experiences it in the small moments: how you set expectations, respond when plans change, recognize effort, and follow through on what you said you would do. In a real estate business, those moments shape the client experience as much as any process or technology.

Here are five practical ways to build trust with your team.

1. Make expectations clear

People cannot consistently meet expectations they have to guess. Be specific about who owns each task, what a good result looks like, and when to ask for help. For a listing launch, for example, clarify who gathers property details, who reviews marketing, and who keeps the seller updated. Clear roles reduce missed handoffs and unnecessary frustration.

2. Listen before you solve

When someone brings you a problem, resist the urge to take it over immediately. Ask what they have tried, what they think is getting in the way, and what support would help them move forward. Listening shows respect and helps people strengthen their own judgment.

3. Follow through on small commitments

Trust is built when your actions match your words. If you promise to review a process, make an introduction, or return with a decision, record it and close the loop. When a commitment has to change, explain why and reset the expectation early.

4. Give feedback that people can use

Useful feedback is timely, direct, and focused on behavior. Describe what you observed, explain its effect, and agree on a next step. Recognize specific contributions too. People should know what is working, not only what needs to change.

5. Invite ownership and honest questions

A team that is afraid to speak up may hide risks until they become bigger problems. Ask what you may be missing, welcome respectful disagreement, and give people room to make decisions within clear boundaries. Accountability works best when people understand both the goal and their authority to act.

A simple weekly leadership check-in

Set aside 15 minutes each week to ask your team: What is going well? Where are we stuck? What decision or support would help? Who owns the next step, and by when? Keep a short record and return to it the following week. This creates a predictable rhythm for communication and follow-through.

Leadership development is practical work

Building trust does not require a dramatic change in personality. It takes consistent habits, honest conversations, and a willingness to keep learning. Start with one behavior you can practice this week, ask your team what difference it makes, and build from there.
